Shakespeare and Mullen

After reading the poetry packet I was a bit overwhelmed. I really have spent a very minimal amount of time reading and writing poetry which I think lends to my confusion when going through this packet. However after multiple reads through I have come to appreciate more of the works rather than just throw them off as I was ready to do after Read Through #1.

The two poems that I thought were quite funny are the Shakespeare 130 and Mullen Dim Lady. Both poems had to deal with the same theme, which was the beauty of their significant others. However in both poems they go about showing how beautiful they are by telling of how much they appreciate their flaws. Shakespeares poem obviously was written first, and Mullen's was written on purpose to copy the exact format of his however Mullen's work is a fantastic modern rendition that made me laugh .

Shakespeare Poem Quote
"and yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any belied with false compare."

 Mullen Poem Quote
" And yet by gosh, my scrumptious twinkie has as much sex appeal for me as any lanky model or platinum movie idol who's hyped beyond belief.
