I am very relieved to have finally sailed out of the land of poetry and into Fiction. This first very very short story packet was fun to read. The stories within it were for the most part funny and very creative. Although they were all incredibly short I enjoyed the brief stories more than the whole City Eclogue.
The short story Walking the Baby to the Liquor Store was one of my favorites from the packet.Upon reading the title I had no idea exactly what to expect. I sure didn't foresee a heartwarming story about a loving father and his baby. In this story "dad" takes his daughter on an adventure to top all adventures. They were going to the liquor store. However in the story the author shows how BIG of a deal the liquor store really is to the baby. She thinks of this 2 or 3 block trip as a quest through seemingly humongous outside world. The dad even puts off doing his work in order to take his daughter to the store even though he doesn't need to go quite yet. It is a very fun and cute story that I loved to read and shared with my family.
Another story that I thought was quirky and fun was Wallet. It was written by Allen Woodman and is about the hijinks of the elder. It is perfectly short and yet does a wonderful job of developing a relationship between the characters in such a short time. By the time events in the story dissolve I was left with a grin on my face and the image of my own grandfather trying to get his wallet stolen.
